Dr. Chris has experience in performing a wide range of soft tissue and orthopaedic procedures.
The list of Soft Tissue and Orthopaedic surgeries below are examples of some of the surgeries commonly performed by Dr. Chris.
Soft Tissue Surgery
Feline Perineal Urethrostomy
A Perineal Urethrostomy is a surgical procedure performed on male cats who have life threatening urethral obstructions. The procedure involves the removal of the penile tissue and the contained narrow urethra. The result is the creation of a new wider urethral opening that will allow crystals, small stones and mucus plugs to pass when they urinate.

Canine Vasectomy
A vasectomy procedure is a permanent sterilisation procedure for male dogs. This procedure prevents any future genetic lineage and a certificate of desexing is provided after surgery.

Anal Sacs
While anal sacs have a natural function, the sacs can be surgically removed when a pet suffers from repeated infections, growths, or ongoing discomfort.
Salivary Glands
Canine salivary gland trauma and blockages can cause pain, distress, and even breathing problems. The mandibular and sublingual glands (located under the jaw and tongue) can be surgically removed to correct the condition. Dogs have more than enough salivary glands, once they have fully recovered the absence of glandular tissue from the damaged side goes un-noticed for the rest of their lives.

Eyelids
Entropion is a painful condition where a portion of the eyelid rolls inwards resulting in discomfort, traumatic ulcers, and infections. A corrective entropion procedure corrects the roll of the eyelid to allow it to rest in a more natural position, correcting the condition.

Brachycephalic Airway
With the airways are already compromised when the pet is admitted for surgery, airway associated surgeries almost always carry additional anaesthetic, surgical, and recovery risks.
At VetLove Advanced Surgery, Dr. Chris regularly operates on healthy, young dogs with airways scores of 1 and 2 (mild to moderate stertor/snore, no exercise intolerance, no history of collapse).
Dogs that are unwell or have airway scores of 3 and 4 (constant marked stertor/snore, exercise intolerance and a history of collapse) can have up to a 30% chance of post operative obstruction. We recommend surgery at a referral 24-hour clinic whenever possible for these patients, and we are very fortunate that hospital such as, the Animal Referral Hospital (ARH), Veterinary Specialist Services (VSS) and Small Animal Specialist Hospital (SASH) operate in a region. An Intensive Care Unit on site can be the life saving difference with pets that suffer from a post operative obstruction.

Orthopedic Surgery
Canine Cruciate Ligament Deficiencies and Ruptures
A cranial cruciate ligament disorder is the most common condition treated by VLAS. Damage to this ligament can present in subtle to obvious ways, from a minor level of discomfort to complete non weight bearing discomfort and muscle loss. Read more about the cruciate ligament
The Tibial Plateau Levelling Osteotomy (TPLO) procedure produces the most consistent high level clinical outcomes in dogs that have damaged their cranial cruciate ligament. Dr. Chris is very experienced performing TPLOs as well as a wide range of other surgical techniques for cruciate injuries. He performs TPLOs daily in pets weighing over 4kg. Medial Patella Luxations
The patella (knee-cap) may become luxated and displaced from its normal location for a variety of reasons. Sometimes it will displace and remain out of position, other times it will move back and forth between a normal and displaced position. Some patients show discomfort and changes in behaviour while others show no signs of discomfort except for a skipping gait. As these pets walk or run, the hindlimb is held up for a step or two before being used normally again with no visible discomfort or concern. This skip occurs because the patella shifts between a normal and displaced position, and the skip frequency can range from occasional to constant.
Dr. Chris has experience correcting all grades of patella luxations and has extensive experience with tiny and toy breeds.
